About 20 budding artists got together in the West End Commons community area to try their hands at painting some lilacs. Aside from learning a new skill, the point of the evening was to collect money in support of the Community Connector, the West End Commons staff member who is available to support tenants in their daily lives and who creates a sense of community in the building and in the neighbourhood. Having someone like that around is the corner stone of the West End Commons approach to affordable social housing. Unfortunately, this position relies on donations and grant money, so it’s great to see that the community is pulling together to collect money in support of the community connector.
